Graves would be a great hire. He was a finalist for the Dayton job last year. He has turned down A LOT of offers waiting for the right job to open up. He would be a home run for BG.

Jent? He isn't even Ohio State's top assistant. Jeff Boals would HAVE to be ahead of him in a coaching search. I'm still surprised he didn't get the Kent State job last year.

Chris Lowery would be a horrific hire. He ran Southern Illinois into the ground. His first 3 years were great winning with Webber and Painter's players. He had 1 good recruiting class...which he proceeded to run off. Haven't had a winning season since 07.

Darrin Horn, kinda intruging. Did a nice job at WKU. Was awful at S. Carolina, they got worse every year he was there.

In 9 years at Akron Hipsher won 0 MAC tournament games, I'll pass. Even though he would never leave Alabama.

In 5 years at Evansville Merfled never won 15 games.

IMO, it would be a huge mistake to hire another retread coach. There's a reason they got fired before. Go out and hire a young assistant.

Best case scenario; he makes you better while also bringing enthusiasm to the program and is striving to get a better job. He leaves BG in better shape than they were before.

Worst case scenario; You go .500 a bunch of years and play in the CIT.

I was presenting a list of options. I am NOT endorsing any of them and only offered who I would hire as a top 10 of my view of top choices. Obviously there's room (intentionally) for argument . . .

1. Jent vs. Boals- Ohio State has obviously done very well with recruiting so its hard to argue vs Boals. My question is this . . . how many causal fans(have to fill a new arena), high school coaches(recruiting connections) and more importantly (and let's be honest) second, third and even fourth tier players(our recruiting targets) know the name Jeff Boals and can place him right away? I don't know . . . Perhaps A LOT, perhaps not many . . . I do know people in Ohio know Chris Jent. From his playing days and from his NBA days (as coach and player) . . . Recruiting is the lifeblood of college hoops and recognition is a huge part, if Boals fits that . . . I'm good. But I know people know who Jent is.

2. I completely disagree on Lowry. A stiff doesn't get to the Sweet 16. I agree the last several years have been more of a struggle, but he was intriguing enough to have Michigan offer BEFORE Beilein and that Carbondale is not exactly a happening place to recruit to. I do see where you are coming from though and sometimes a change in scenery is good for everyone.

3. Darrin Horn is a fine coach and can you name the last guy to win at South Carolina? Yeah, I can't either.

4. I was merely listing names as having BG connections, I have zero interest in Hipsher, but I do like Merfeld.

5. I do like the young assistant approach, but with a (potential) buyout and finances being what they are in the MAC, who can BG afford?

Not gonna lie, these threads irritate the hell out of me. Louis Orr is our coach. Could that change this off season? Maybe. Drooling over a list of potential coaches while the Bowling Green men's basketball team currently has a head coach is really damn useless and probably offensive to the student athletes. As alums, students, and fans, we should be supportive of the student athletes. Making a wish list of who we want as a head coach when we already have a head coach sends a message to the guys that we think they failed on their coach. While for us, watching the game is fun and can be a point I'd pride in our Alma Mater, the sport occupies an incredible portion of these student athletes' lives during the college years. Regardless if the sport, I believe these threads send the wrong message.

I think they're pointless...offensive...not sure. But pointless...yes.

It sends a message that we think he has failed as a coach, not that they failed. And because we support those players we want better for them. We don't want this incredible portion of their lives wasted on a coach who we believe won't get them anywhere.

Yes..that's true..but starting threads about available coaches when it appears 110% likely that the guy we have is coming back is uber-pointless. It's like going shopping for a new car when you don't have a job. It sucks, but Louis Orr is our coach and he's going to be our coach when we have schollies to give next year. Can't wait to see what 6-1" guard or 6-7 PF he signs....

Ya I'm also looking forward to see who we pick up with our final schollie. I'm pretty much banking on Vitto Brown for 13-14 (yuck) if Lou somehow rots around for 2 more years, but I could very well see him bringing in another project big to redshirt for next season. Another option would be to tap into the Texas small christian school pipeline we have established, to find another shooter.

Between the one schollie we still have and the four guys that will be seniors next year, Orr has five schollies to work with over the next 6 months. This worries me.....

Your best argument is your most recent without even trying to make one. We have one available for next season and four coming due in the spring . . . I can't think of a better time to get a new talent evaluator in here and allow them to construct the program in their image. I don't want a new coach when they have 1 or 2 schollies to work with, I want a guy who can put his imprint on recruiting right away and get new blood into the program.

I agree with you 1000% that Orr should go...I've said so numerous times. I think it's completely futile to discuss a replacement when it's obvious he's going to be here for at least one more year. He's got two years left....it's really more like one. Most AD's don't like having a guy on the job on a one year deal. If you're that unsure about keeping him...you probably should have cut ties already.

Is John Wooden still alive? If so, sign him to a lifetime contract.
