I'm guessing that the main reason for the games being played at St. John's is BECAUSE of the state HS tournament. But it IS a better facility for us, I'd think....just the concept of a 13K arena vs. a 20K in terms of the size, shooting background etc. BG got some nice props on ESPN during their women's "evaluation" show... mentioned Curt by name...also said we'll have to really take care of the ball as GT presses a LOT!

Folks on Georgia Tech boards are bemoaning the fact they have to play BG and possibly OSU in Columbus.

From the Sentinel-Tribune

It’s a perfect location for BG’s Lauren Prochaska, less than half an hour from her hometown of Plain City.
When asked if everyone in Plain City would be at St. John Arena Saturday, Prochaska said: “Yes everybody.” The population for Plain City as of July 2009 was reported at 3,560.
“I was real excited. I was hoping that I would get a chance to go back to Columbus and kind of finish out my career back at home,” Prochaska continued. “My family already texted me and they are really excited too.

Not sure where the one GA Tech fan got Peck picking us to pull the upset from, I certainly didn't hear any of them making predictions during the show on ESPN at 7 or ESPNU at 8

Can't say I'm surprised, I'm sure it will happen next year if we make the tournament and host and are a lower seed.

If the GA Tech fans think thats bad, I can only wonder how the Notre Dame fans are reacting, having to face a 15 seed on their home floor

She mentioned it right at the end of the 6:00 show before they switched over to ESPNU.

It was definitely moved for the HS tournament. My question was whether they'd then move to Value City for the second round game. I would guess that they would, but I wasn't sure.

Nope. The NCAA comes in and takes over everything a few days before the tournament. They're not going to move everything over to a new venue just for one round. Plus don't forget you have how much cable running through the place for television?

of course, I switched over a bit early, not thinking I would miss anything in those last couple minutes #-o

In other news, here's the other MAC teams in the postseason WNIT:

Central Michigan at Illinois State
Kent State at Duquesne
Delaware at Toledo
Michigan at Eastern Michigan (this is absolutely hilarious, suck it scUM)

Its nice that both UM and EMU can have a home game. It cracks me up that EMU is still around. They sell more UM gear in their bookstore than EMU gear.

What I don't understand is why they built the school in Ypsilanti, right down the street from UM. They could have put it more up on the thumb of the mitten, or even somewhere in Detroit's northern metroplex, perhaps Macomb County. Instead, where EMU is, it'll never amount to much of anything as far as athletics are concerned because of it's proximity to UM. They suck at basketball and football virtually every year. Supposedly they are decent in some of the non-revenue sports though.

I think it would be a great benefit to the MAC if they were to kick EMU and their perpetual 1-win football team and 300+ rpi basketball team out of the conference for good. They drag the rest of us down.

The BCS didn't come around until a couple years after they started the school in 1849.

Ya know 24, it's a lot easier to report your post than respond.

That BGSU football team has sucked for a few years, and the men's basketball team has sucked for 10. Maybe we should withdraw from the MAC? Or the CCHA?

Let's worry about our teams and not criticize the others we play against. And you wonder why AZZ was shut down for a while....

Meh. TV crews make a living (and decent wage) setting up and tearing down for a one-day event.

I could see the NCAA set-up being an issue (seeing as how I'm not sure how they run, exactly), though if there was any feasible way for them to try to get revenue from an extra 10K seats (or whatever), I'm pretty sure the NCAA would do it. Not to mention the state-of-the-art communications set-up that exists at VCA over the old barn.

Wouldn't surprise me if they played it out either way, was just curious.
