Every time I see GM perform in the tourney I shake my head in wonder. I don't remember exactly what happened with JL and BG. Did we fire him or he resign? What the circumstances for either? I don't know, it just burns me to see what JL has done with GM over his time there. The guys he's got there seem to dwarf the talent we had when he was here out side of maybe Daniels.

He left for what he deemed a better job- a school that could devote it's identity to one sport- men's basketball.

I think your dismay is misguided as the guy I see constantly in the tourney getting my attention is Greg Kampe.

At the risk of pissing everybody off, Oh wait this is AZZ. Forget that part.

Coach L was kind of like the Don Nehlen story. Perhaps the difference was that he was not very well liked by a lot of "fans" hmmm He put together a stellar season and his contract was coming up so he went out and found a "lateral" job at GMU. Exit Coach L, enter DD. He struggled at GMU for a couple of years, keep in mind he also took his family with him and Jon was still at St. John's when coach L got "lateraled" to GMU.
Jon played there.

In truth, he was a .500 coach in the MAC, wasn't liked by the AD (Krebs IIRC) and he just happened to get lucky and win the MAC regeular season (does the "3" from East Jesus in the Miami game that we lost stick in your head?), of course the 10-second violation by Anthony Stacey the previous year or two prior really makes me a frustrated Falcon Fan, but I digress. Larranaga was 170-144 in his 11 or 12 seasons.

I hope he beats the Suckeyes.

HoopsFan who can still hear him whistle on TV :-)

Why did we get rid of Bill Fitch?

Wow. I just looked up Bill Fitch and saw just how pathetic men's basketball at BGSU has been. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowling_Gr ... basketball

Next to Harold Anderson, Larranaga looks a lot better than anyone else except Fitch. Was Miletti the odd sounding last name, you know the alumni dude :-)

Quick note as it relates to "lateral moves"

Even at the time, it probably represented a salary increase....and, as Dayon mentioned, it cannot be stated enough that a movie from a midmajor football school to a midmajor non-football school can be a huge step up in terms of resources.

What a buzzsaw GMU ran into yesterday. I'll tell you what, if OSU continues making their 3's, they will win the whole tournament.

Only movie from a mid-major school that I can think of is that one about MArshall- the rest of the movies are mostly about BCS schools like Notre Dame.

JL didn't win the big game when it counted to getting BG in the tournament, and frankly BG rainmakers got tired of the same old song.

I like Kampe alot. Its not just the fact that he is alum, but how he runs the Oakland program. Its a model we should consider. Oakland plays perhaps the most difficult OOC schedule in the country. It helps with recruiting and it gets the team ready for conference play and the post season. It also helps market the program. Miami and Temple are also examples of how the formula can work historically. The tougher OOC games would also help our power rankings and at large consideration in the event of being on the bubble. As much as I would like a ton of home games, playing Tiffin and Findlay makes no sense. Lets get on a plane and go to war with UCLA and Duke. Even if we lose, we win.
