I'm an alum living in NJ and I read recently that Coach Orr interviewed for the head coaching job at Monmouth University (located in NJ). I was just wondering why? Are things not so "rosy" at BG? Could he possibly be feeling some heat at the adminstration level? The Monmouth job wouldn't exactly be a step up for Orr. In fact, it would be more of a step down.

No need to worry because Orr did not get the Monmouth job...

Orr has a mediocre records here, but I'm not sure if it's a bad reflection on him.

BG is a low paying mid-major job. Overall, it's a very difficult situation. The student body and surrounding general public has a rich tradition in a defeatist apathy towards BG hoops. We built a new gym, but couldn't justify a capacity larger than the arena we're replacing. Our athletic budget is small. Because we haven't to the NCAA tournament since 1968, there is a unique pressure to win.

Dakich left and just a few years later he has become a commentator and play-by-play guy ESPN. Larranaga took a lateral to GMU and has been very successful. The guy before Larranaga was fired despite having more overall talent than any of his predecessors have had since.

Weinart, Larranaga, Dakich, and Orr haven't succeeded here. I'm not sure who would succeed here.

I was wondering how things may shake out if his son plays at BG, then there is a head coaching change ?????

Agreed BleedOrange, and I think it is a friggin' joke we are paying our coach 44% less than Kent State's head man. This needs to change along with the new era of Falcon hoops starting next year. Hopefully the Stroh Center will mean more for our basketball program than "dressing up a pig in pretty clothes"

This is all fan-friggin'-tastic timing going into a pretty important off-season.....

Maybe someone suggested he should start looking.

That thought crossed my mind as well. Not that he is getting fired right now. But maybe he was told in very specific terms what needs to happen next season for him to keep his job. And in order to not be under that pressure, he started looking now until waiting to possibly be fired after next season.

Is there some sort of hint here with Michael Huger, his connection to BG, and the questions about his apparent upward career path?

Hell, why not add question 11 to this interview... err, I mean article... : "Would you be interested in coming back to BG as a coach"?

Monmouth Park is a very cool race track, and in my opinion better has a better meet than Saratoga. Obviously it is close to the school. Maybe Coach Orr likes the ponies. I know I do.

Scenario 1: He was told that 3 losing seasons out of 4 is not acceptable and next year needs to be different to justify retention. Looking at the landscape of the conference, he doesn't think it will and is being proactive.

Scenario 2: He's a Division I basketball coach and doesn't need to be told that 3 losing seasons out of 4 puts someone on shaky ground. He's not confident that next year will be any better and is being proactive.

Scenario 3: It never happened and he's one hundred percent focused and excited about next year.
